Minutes - October 12, 2011

Sidney Partners in Education

Meeting held:  Wednesday, October 12, 2011 at 6:30 pm in the Elementary Library

President Tracy Schroeder called the meeting to order at 6:35 pm.

Members in attendance:  President Tracy Schroeder, Vice-President Trisha Holt, Principal Linda Spencer, Sarah Rivera, Cara Marker-Morgan, Treasurer Jennifer Jorgenson, and Secretary Angie Sheldon.

There were no guests.

Minutes from the September meeting were read.  There was a motion and a second to approve the minutes as read.

Treasurer’s report
Checking balance $628.67
Savings balance $1,264.03
Total $1,892.70

A Scholastic Book Fair bill in the amount of $1,297.00 was presented by Linda Spencer.  A motion was made and seconded to pay this bill.
Sidney Elementary earned approximately $700.00 in Scholastic dollars through the Book Fair, which will be used for future book purchases.

Old Business

Change Challenge
$184.73 was collected from the Change Challenge.
The 5th graders had the heaviest bucket and 2nd graders collected the most money.  They will be rewarded with a dance party and Karaoke on Friday, October 21, 2011 at 2:45 pm.
All other students will be rewarded with an extra recess for their contributions.

Pedometers
A motion was made and seconded to purchase seventy-five pedometers for students participating in Sidney Fitness Club.  They will be purchased through Walmart.  Money collected from the Change Challenge and a gift card donation from Walmart will be used toward the purchase of the pedometers.  Tracy has also applied for a grant to help with the cost.

Cookbook
A motion and second was made to purchase two hundred cookbooks from the Morris cookbook company.  They will be available for sale before Christmas.  Cookbook recipes need to be turned into the Morris cookbook company by the first week in November.  Plans are to finalize the cookbook order on October 24 at 7:00 pm in the Elementary Library.

T-shirts
A motion was made and seconded to complete the t-shirt orders by October 19, 2011.

New Business

Red Ribbon Week
Plans are to have students dress up each day during Red Ribbon Week.  A motion was made and seconded to have PIE purchase “Drug-Free” bracelets for students.  

Volunteer Motivation
Plans are to put a volunteer request letter on the back of the Winter Concert program.

Fun Activity Night Involving Parents
Possible activities include a family movie night or carnival.

Meeting adjourned at 7:58 pm.
